The route leads from Göschenen railway station through the rocky gorge with its surprising views (and, remarkably, well away from motor traffic) over the Teufelsbrücke to Andermatt.

The second part takes you through the Urseren Valley to Hospental and along the old mules’ track to the top of the pass.

On the Gotthard Pass, deep inside the mountain, is the exhibition on Goethe’s three journeys through Switzerland (please note: admission until 3 pm each day).
